RT THERAPY

EVER HEAR THE ADVICE "IF YOU HAVE TO EAT A FROG, DO IT IN THE MORNING?"!
While we're not going to snack on this little fellow; he serves as a great reminder to do the hard things first. It's an art therapy lesson on patience, perseverance, decision making and logical thinking. The focus is on the process, not the product; but this little guy's a winner with clients.
Art Therapy is perfect mode for releasing trauma and emotional pain. It uses the part of our brain that is nonverbal. Art Therapy is more concerned with the process of creating art than the object itself. There is also a big shot of the of the feel good neurotransmitter, Dopamine, that is released when the project is completed. I often combine Art Therapy with CBT or other therapies specific to the client I am working with. The finished art is displayed on the walls of my building or the client may take the project home.
